OK. We know. You’re not happy with the decision, neither are we. But the June Town Wide Yard Sale in Poultney was cancelled back in February, when planning would have started. The State of Vermont had no prediction as to when mass gatherings could be allowed. We just looked it up: as of now, 46 percent of the people living in Vermont have been vaccinated; the percentage in nearby New York is reported as lower.
Townspeople acting alone will of course make their own judgements about whether they can safely hold single family yard sales on their own property on Saturday, June 5th. If they do, we assume they will continue to follow the state masking policy, whatever it is at that time.
But get ready: better times are on the way! The Poultney Area Chamber of Commerce has scheduled it’s Fall Town Wide Yard Sale for October 9th, 2021. Information is being compiled now, and we expect to send it out some time in the early part of the summer.
The cancellation of last year’s events did give us a chance to update our map of Main Street; the new map will be posted soon on the Chamber website at https://poultneyareachamber.com/, under the calendar listing for the Fall Town Wide Yard Sale. Keep looking for it!
So think ahead – to the crisp, bright leaves, the cool fall air, and the fun of shopping for things you need, or want, or for possible winter projects. Seeing people you might not have seen for the last two years, catching up on what’s happened, and just enjoying the company. Check out the new businesses, or the new owners, and see what’s changed. Bring your hiking shoes, or your bicycle, and enjoy the trails and rural roads! Poultney is a hub for outdoor recreation.
Don’t forget to chow down on the loaded baked potatoes at The Great Potato Bake! (We hear the Dancing Potato is scheduled to make another appearance) Anticipation is great, isn’t it? To be able to look forward to the world being stable again?
The Poultney Area Chamber of Commerce open the Visitors Center in the Stonebridge Building as soon as allowed this summer. We’ll will choose a new Citizen of the Year in September, with nominations accepted starting August 1st. We’ll start the “When’s the Sap Running?” contest after Labor Day, the Stuff A Shanty Project in October, and hope to repeat our Poultney Bucks Discount and Shop Local campaigns in November and December. Oh, it’s going to be a busy year! And of course there’ll be the famous Spaghetti Supper early next year, and Poultney Maplefest in March.
But make plans now for fall, to come to the Poultney Fall Town Wide Yard Sale and Great Potato Bake! Saturday, October 9th, all over Poultney, Vermont!
