Are you ready to save a bundle on gifts for the holidays? (and anything else you need right now, too) Poultney’s Holiday Bag Sale and Open House Day is on for Saturday, November 5th, 2022.
Remember it’s ALWAYS the first Saturday in November, from 8 AM to 5 PM. The tradition actually started way back when a couple of local Poultney businesses decided to hold this special sale to let people stock up early on holiday gifts at a lower-than-normal price. And so the concept of the Bag Sale was born.
Each shopper gets a percentage off all non-sale items they can fit in their recyclable bag – and in many cases, they even give you the bag! This sale is so popular that some people even go into the stores ahead of time and make lists of what they want to buy. You’d be surprised at how many things are there.
Did you know Bob at Wiliams Hardware carries over 22,000 separate items? Think of what you could save, at 25 percent off all the non-sale items you can fit into the bag. Of course, some are too big to fit in the bag– so forget the discount on the big wheelbarrow this trip – but you’ll find plenty more. Holiday decorations, too!
We don’t know how many separate gifts Nicole at The Original Vermont Store is carrying now, but we do know she’s stocked up for Christmas, and she’s opened a whole new room, so the count is up!
Patti at Hermit Hill Books carries so much more than books now that it’s a wonder it all fits in the store. Note and greeting cards, maps, information on area attractions, an expanded paperback room, and books on every subject you can imagine (including Vermont authors, of course)
Linda at Picket Fence Antiques in East Poultney has a marvelous selection of vintage jewelry, besides her selection of collectible dinnerware, glass, art, and books. She’ll be open specially for the day from 10 AM to 2 PM, with 20 percent off.
Looking for a unique gift? The Poultney Public Library will be open from 10 AM to 1 PM. To raise funds for library projects, they have some wonderful dolls for sale, along with Dr. Scott McLaughlin’s photographs, and books, puzzles, and other items
Check with Danny at Reclaimed to see what they have on tap. They’re expanding their offerings bit by bit. By the way, they can certainly use more old wood for special projects, so if you have some, just stop in or email them a photo
Taps Tavern loves seeing new faces, and there’s something special there for you. Perry’s Main Street Eatery also has a special, and you’ll want to try Toads Burger Bar, Full Belly Deli, Stewarts, the East Poultney General Store, and Poultney Pizza for lunch.
And that’s not all! Stop in at all the businesses and organizations in Poultney, and get ready to come back again! Just make sure you get to the Holiday Bag Sale and Open House Day, Saturday, November 5th, 2022. Look for discounts and open houses all over town, including East Poultney. You’ll be glad you did. (Everyone’s looking to save money this year!) We’ll see you there.
